MP3 NOTES

get winamp.First of all, you need Winamp or another mp3 player to listen to the mp3s on this site. You can get it from http://winamp.lh.net/. In my opinion Winamp is the best mp3 player because it's basically the interface of a CD player; you can shuffle, skip tracks, build a playlist, and it even has a graphical equalizer that you can mess with. With some of my featured mp3s I've been able to frunk with the EQ enough to get the songs to sound almost identical to the CD.

In case you don't know what mp3's are, it's a type of encoding that allows you to fit an entire song into 1 or 2 mb. Most (if not all) of the mp3's on this site are encoded so that they're approx. 1 mb, and the quality of the song that results is about tape quality. The featured mp3 is usually around 1.5-2 mb, and is usually better than tape quality. The quality of the featured mp3 is shown by the little numbers and stuff underneath it. Here's what it means.

kHz - 22 kHz is more or less tape quality, and 44.1 is about CD quality.
Mono/Stereo - Nuff said.
kbps - 32 kbps is used for 22 kHz, mono recordings and means that there's about 4:15 of music for every 1 mb. 56 kbps is usually for featured mp3s and is used for 22 kHz stereo or 44 kHz mono recordings. 56 kbps recordings take up about 2 mb for every 4:50 of music, but result in better quality.

Well if you've actually read all this stuff I think you need a little break, here's a little bonus mp3 by Orbital for you to munch on.

Satan (849 KB) - From the album 'In Sides'.

Don't sue me: These mp3s are not for commercial use and are intended to be downloaded only to experience the ruling nature of the music and then go out and buy a bunch of their stuff.
